QUARTZ, short for Queer Art Zone, is a collaborative project of the University of Arizona Institute for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender Studies (iLGBT Studies) and the University of Arizona Museum of Art & Archive of Visual Arts (UAMA), that is designed to engage iLGBT faculty and their students in the active engagement with UAMA collections. The museum is a working laboratory for faculty and students to enhance their studies and research through the inclusion of the visual arts and their curricula. The pilot QUARTZ was held at the UAMA on November 28th curated with Manuel Muñoz and Adela C. Licona, and their students with assistance from Olivia Miller, UAMA Curator of Exhibitions and Education.
On four Thursday nights in the Spring 2017 semester, graduate student teachers are invited to work with their students and UAMA staff to co-curate a viewing specifically designed to complement their class content in the Queer Art Zone of the UAMA gallery with a reception to follow.
Please contact Kristen Nelson, Porgram Coordinator if you are interested in setting up a QUARTZ event for your class next semester. firstname.lastname@example.org.
