TSQ: Transgender Studies Quarterly

Over the first four volumes, TSQ has dedicated each issue to investigating and complicating special topics in trans studies. As we launch Volume 5, we are encouraging scholars and writers from across the disciplines to submit their work for our first general issue.
For TSQ 5.1, we welcome works of varying lengths which engage with ‘trans’ as a topic of inquiry, a methodology, or an epistemology. This call for papers comes on the heels of the inaugural Trans*Studies conference, which brought together hundreds of scholars, activists, artist, and community workers engaging with, “topic[s] pertaining to transgender issues, sex/gender variance, gender nonconformity, and diverse embodiments-as well as work that draws upon trans* methodologies to inform research in other areas of inquiry.” In response to feedback received from Trans*Studies attendees, we especially encourage submissions which consider intersections of trans studies and critical race studies, challenge trans studies’ emphasis on the global north, disrupt or productively complicate the dominance of global north Englishes in trans studies, or which include and esteem the embodied knowledge of trans persons outside of the academy.
The expected range for scholarly articles is 5000 to 7000 words, and 1000 to 2000 words for shorter critical essays and descriptive accounts. Illustrations should be included with both completed submissions and abstracts. Submissions must be received by January 20, 2017. TSQ: Transgender Studies Quarterly is co-edited by Paisley Currah and Susan Stryker, and published by Duke University Press, with editorial offices at the University of Arizona’s Institute for LGBT Studies. TSQ aims to be the journal of record for the interdisciplinary field of transgender studies and to promote the widest possible range of perspectives on transgender phenomena broadly defined.
