Transformative works (i.e., Fanfiction, fanvid, fanart, Podfic, etc,) aren't only just a fun fluff read full of romance and wish fulfilment, they can also be used as a lens to scrutinize and critique the original source material, society, or the media. Come join us as we take a look at some specific fanworks that exemplify this, including fan vids like: straightening up the house - by Eruthros that examines the LGBTQIA erasure in the Marvel movies, and How Much is that Geisha in the window by Lierdumoa that examines the lack of Asian actors in Firefly in conjunction with the use of Asian culture and the undertones of southern glory culture seen in the browncoats.

Trigger warnings for discussions of: Women in refrigerators, Sexualized Violence against women, LGBTQIA erasure, Sexism, racism discussions of mental health including PTSD, Suicidal Ideations, OCD, and Anxiety.
