I am the founder and owner of Art Mimics Life. Art Mimics Life is a new clothing brand coming on its 2 years that dedicated to helping the Eon Youth Program, a program of Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation located at the Thornhill Lopez Center on 4th in Tucson, AZ. Art Mimics Life was created to bring awareness to the heightened risk of homelessness and housing instability among LGBTQ+ youth while also focusing on preventing homelessness in our youth population. Being a part of the LGBTQ+ Community and being a QPOC artist, Art Mimics Life strives to confront social norms specifically gender-specific norms by educating youth about expression through art. Growing up, art introduced me to a world of endless creativity and ultimately molded me into the person I am today. It is one of my utmost goals to give back to our youth by introducing our new generations to art that is created to inspire.

For my Virtual Artist In Residency video submission, I wanted to show the process of tattooing as an art form. The person I chose to tattoo is one of the most important in my life, my brother and best friend, Justin (he/him/his). Justin is the first person I came out to. Growing up, discussions about queer people was taboo, especially in a Latin, Native American and Catholic household. Coming out to my brother was the hardest thing I've done in my life, for fear of losing my relationship with my brother and the stigma around queerness.
