The office for Research, Discovery & Innovation (RDI) announces the search for the next Director of the Institute for LGBT Studies (ILGBTS), one of the premier university-wide research institutes and centers at the University of Arizona (UA). This position is open to internal UA candidates only. Applications will be reviewed beginning February 5, 2018.
The mission of the Institute is to promote LGBTQ research, curricula, and educational programming. It is charged to be the intellectual home and driver for interdisciplinary research and engagement in LGBTQ studies by advancing cross-cutting inquiry, increasing external support (sponsored and philanthropic) that enables growth of research and engagement activities, develop internal and external partnerships, as well as delivering measurable public impact through educational experiences and outreach programs.
ILGBTS currently has four major research initiatives including the Transgender Studies Initiative (TSI), Queer Migration Network Initiative (QMN), Arizona Queer Archives Initiative (AQA), and, together with the Office for LGBTQ Affairs, the QTPOC Speaker and Performance Initiative. We are the only interdisciplinary university-based LGBT institute in the southwest, and the only institute in the country addressing LGBT border issues through scholarship, inquiry, programming, and community engagement.
